Protect your investment with comprehensive load bank testing designed to validate generator performance, maintain compliance, and ensure your backup power system is ready for any outage.
Schedule Load Banking Test Today!Routine load bank testing is one of the most effective ways to verify the performance, reliability, and readiness of standby and emergency generator systems. Whether you're maintaining a commercial facility, healthcare campus, data center, municipality, or industrial operation, regular load testing helps ensure your generator will perform at full capacity when utility power is lost.
South Shore Generator provides both resistive and reactive load bank testing to evaluate generator performance under real-world operating conditions. Many regulatory agencies and industry standards—including NFPA, healthcare life-safety requirements, and accreditation organizations—require periodic load bank testing to maintain compliance and ensure emergency power systems remain dependable.
Over time, generators that operate with little or no electrical load can develop performance issues that may not be detected during routine inspections.
Load bank testing safely places the generator under a controlled electrical load, allowing technicians to verify that every major component is functioning properly while identifying potential issues before they lead to costly downtime.
For diesel-powered generators, periodic load bank testing is especially important for preventing wet stacking. Wet stacking occurs when a diesel engine operates for extended periods under light loads and never reaches its proper operating temperature. Because combustion is incomplete, unburned fuel and carbon deposits accumulate throughout the engine and exhaust system, reducing efficiency and potentially causing long-term damage.
To promote efficient combustion, diesel generators should typically operate at 60% or greater of their rated capacity during testing or normal operation. Load bank testing safely provides the necessary electrical demand to raise engine temperatures, burn off accumulated deposits, and maintain peak performance.
Resistive load banks are the most commonly used load testing systems and simulate real electrical loads by converting electrical energy into heat through high-capacity resistors. This allows technicians to safely place the generator under a controlled load while verifying that it can produce its rated output.
Resistive testing is ideal for verifying generator operation under real electrical demand and ensuring the entire system performs as designed.
While resistive testing measures real power (kW), reactive load bank testing evaluates a generator's ability to produce its full apparent power (kVA) at its rated power factor. This type of testing more accurately simulates the inductive loads commonly found in commercial and industrial facilities, including motors, pumps, HVAC equipment, elevators, and transformers.
Reactive load testing provides a more comprehensive evaluation by measuring how the generator performs under conditions that closely resemble actual facility loads.
Unlike many generator service providers, South Shore Generator has the specialized equipment and expertise to perform both resistive and reactive load bank testing, providing customers with complete performance verification for their standby and emergency power systems.
With decades of experience servicing residential, commercial, industrial, healthcare, and municipal power systems, South Shore Generator delivers comprehensive load bank testing that helps maximize generator reliability, maintain compliance, and protect your investment.
Whether you need routine preventive maintenance, NFPA-required testing, or complete performance verification, our experienced technicians have the equipment and expertise to ensure your generator is ready when it matters most.
